All Aboard for Speakeasy Night on the Olympia
This Friday night, sneak a peek at what life at sea during Prohibition felt like! Philadelphia’s waterfront is inviting you to step straight into the Roaring Twenties aboard the historic Cruiser Olympia.
The Olympia, on her own, is already a marvel to explore. But for one night and one night only, she’ll transform into a 1920s-style speakeasy: Prohibition era glam, vintage tunes, and a little bit of that I-got-into-a-secret-club thrill. Your first drink is on the house (kudos to you, Independence Seaport Museum), and light bites will keep you fueled as you wander the decks, chat with fellow guests, and try your luck at classic games. Dressing in your Gatsby glam is encouraged, but totally optional.
About Olympia
Via Independence Seaport Museum’s Instagram
According to the Independence Seaport Museum’s Cruiser Olympia page, the ship is the oldest steel warship still afloat in the world. She served as Commodore George Dewey’s flagship in the Spanish–American War, saw action in World War I, and in 1921 carried the remains of the Unknown Soldier to Arlington National Cemetery.
Since 1957, she’s been part of the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia, where visitors can explore her preserved decks, crew quarters, engine rooms, and more. A National Historic Landmark, Olympia is a rare glimpse into over a century of American naval history.
