Philadelphia’s Pride Weekend Is Here

Pride Weekend in Philadelphia never really stays in one lane, which is always the best part. It starts as a march, segues into a festival, spills into the bars, pulls drag performers onto stages, fills sidewalks with glitter, flags, music, friends, strangers, and consistently becomes one of the loudest, warmest, most alive weekends of the summer.

This year's Pride Weekend is shaping up to be one of the biggest in recent memory, with events stretching from the Delaware Waterfront to the Parkway and everywhere in between.

Pride Is Taking Over the Parkway

The biggest change this year is the relocation of the annual Philly Pride Festival.

For the first time, Philly Pride 365 is moving its main festival from the Gayborhood to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, giving organizers significantly more space for vendors, performances, community programming, food, and entertainment. The Pride March will step off Sunday morning before ending at the Parkway festival, which runs from noon until 7 p.m. and is expected to draw well over 100,000 attendees.

The move signals how much Pride has grown in Philadelphia over the last several years. What was once primarily centered in the Gayborhood has expanded into one of the city's largest annual civic celebrations.

Pride Starts Long Before Sunday

One of the best parts of Philadelphia’s Pride Weekend is that the celebration doesn't wait for the march.

Today kicks things off with a variety of events across the city, including Pride-themed performances, community gatherings, and the highly anticipated Pride on the Pier event at Liberty Point along the waterfront. With DJs, multiple stages, food, drinks, and waterfront views, it's easily one of the most popular ways to start the weekend.

Saturday keeps the momentum going with community events, parties, and celebrations throughout the city, including the Dyke March and multiple nightlife events throughout the Gayborhood. The Saturday Night Gayborhood Celebration is expected to keep Locust Street buzzing before the city shifts toward Sunday's larger festival and march.

Expect Big Crowds and Even Bigger Energy

If you're planning to head into Center City this weekend, public transit is highly recommended. Major road closures, parking restrictions, and SEPTA detours are expected throughout Sunday as the march and festival move through Center City and onto the Parkway.

The march may be the headline event, but brunch is where many Pride weekends truly begin. Be sure to check out our article on The Best Pride Brunches Happening This Weekend in Philadelphia for some of the city's most fabulous daytime celebrations.
