This week handed Philadelphia its annual “get outside” starter pack. Bok Bar reopened today, Thursday, April 9, with its South Philly rooftop, skyline views, drinks, food, and its usual warm weather pull. Liberty Garden is back for the season at Independence Mall, stocked to the gills hammocks and Pennsylvania beer and wine near the Liberty Bell. And Parks on Tap kicked off its 2026 run at Azalea Garden starting Wednesday, April 8, with the roaming beer garden once again turning city park space into actual plans.

There’s a very specific kind of night Philadelphia lives for: those first few warm nights where jackets get left at home, and suddenly everyone’s texting to try to find out what the move is.

And the answer is almost always the same: go out.

That first stretch of good weather turns the whole city into a vibe. Patios come alive and bars that felt quiet all winter suddenly feel like the place to be. 

January doesn’t necessarily mean you have to give up on outdoor plans. It just means you have to be a little smarter about them. Philadelphia winters are unpredictable, but the city has mastered the art of the winter patio: heaters blasting and rooftops covered just enough to block the wind, leaving you with an experience that’s comfortable enough to not spend the whole night counting down until you can go back inside.

After the sun goes down and the temps stay high, it’s time to head straight to the many Philadelphia patios scattered about the city. These late-night patios are where the real summer magic happens, whether you’re looking for low-key date night energy or somewhere to cool off with a group of friends and a frozen drink in hand.
