The First Annual TROPIGOTH Fest Hits Liberty Point This Sunday

This Sunday, Synthicide and Shadowplay PHL are teaming up to throw the very first annual TROPIGOTH Festival at Liberty Point, and it might be the most delightfully out-of-the-norm party concept Philly's waterfront has seen all summer.

Wait, What Is TROPIGOTH?

Exactly what it sounds like: a daytime collision of 80s, modern italo disco, new wave, synth pop, and more, that serve as a reminder that the genre was always more about mood and sound than it was about avoiding sunlight. Italo disco and freestyle already carry that melancholic energy that goth fans gravitate toward; TROPIGOTH just leans more heavily into the fact that those sounds work just as well with a cocktail in hand at 4 PM as they do at last call.

The Lineup

Organizers didn't mess around when it came to booking talent, pulling DJs in from three different cities for this one. Kendal is flying in from Paris by way of Ritmo Fatale, while Andi makes the trip down from Synthicide's home base in New York City. Jubilee brings Magic City energy straight from NYC as well, and the hometown crowd gets its due with G I N A and EBGII repping Shadowplay PHL.

The Details

  • When: Sunday, August 9, 3:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Why You Should Go

Philly's goth scene doesn't usually get to soak up the sun, and Philly's waterfront day parties don't usually come with a synth-pop soundtrack, so this mashup is a genuinely fresh idea.

But if jumping right into a summer goth party makes you hesitate a bit, first swing by Known Associates, Philly's newest cocktail bar from the team behind Forsythia. A round of inventive pours in Washington Square West is the perfect way to set the tone before a full afternoon of synth pop and sunshine.
