The Oval at Eakins Oval Winds Down Through Mid-September

The Oval at Eakins Oval is winding down its summer run, closing on September 14 after nearly three months of transforming eight acres in front of the Art Museum into the city’s most colorful pop-up playground.

Since the middle of June, The Oval has been a hub of live performances, movie nights, mini golf, and easy summer lounging. Now, with only a few weeks left, Philadelphians are squeezing in one last visit before the gates close until next year.

Beer, Bites, and Mini Golf Under the Lights

The Libertee Grounds Beer Garden has been a magnet the whole while, serving up local craft brews and snacks in a setting that feels like your backyard. Right next door, a Philadelphia-themed mini golf course opened in early August, pulling in families and date-night duos with whimsical nods to the city’s icons.

Movies, Music, and Cultural Showcases

Friday nights have brought outdoor screenings of classics like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and blockbusters like Black Panther, while the main stage has featured a bit of everything, from traditional Filipino dance to R&B showcases.

In a city that often debates what to do with its massive Parkway, The Oval has carved out a reputation as a model of temporary urban design. For a few weeks each summer, the space becomes not just a thoroughfare to the Art Museum, but a destination in its own right.

What’s Next

Once the chairs are stacked and the lights dim, attention turns to Philly’s fall calendar of food festivals, art fairs, and outdoor beer gardens. But for now, The Oval is still the best place to watch the sun set on summer.

If you haven’t been, make your plans now. The Oval is closing soon, and once it’s gone, you’ll have to wait until next summer to sprawl out on the Parkway’s front yard again.

While You’re Making Plans

If your weekend calendar is already filling up, don’t miss out on another standout event: the Fonthill Castle Beer Fest, happening this Saturday. With craft brews, live music, and the stunning backdrop of Henry Mercer’s historic castle, it’s one of the region’s most unique drinking experiences.
