There was a time when cocktails were not trying to be mysterious. People were out here ordering Melon Balls like they had stock in melon liqueur. French Martinis made everybody feel impossibly sophisticated, and bars served shots with names nobody questioned. Then somewhere along the way, cocktails got… serious. Bartenders started describing cocktails using words like washed, clarified, and expressive.

The Oval at Eakins Oval Winds Down Through Mid-September

The Oval at Eakins Oval is winding down its summer run, closing on September 14 after nearly three months of transforming eight acres in front of the Art Museum into the city’s most colorful pop-up playground.

Since the middle of June, The Oval has been a hub of live performances, movie nights, mini golf, and easy summer lounging. Now, with only a few weeks left, Philadelphians are squeezing in one last visit before the gates close until next year.
